TBAISD Career Tech Center vs NMC Construction Trades!

Building Skills Showdown Recap

The HBA Workforce Development Committee put together the Building Skills Showdown event with the goal of bringing awareness to the amazing career opportunities in the residential building industry and to shine a light on the great educational resources available at the TBA Career Tech Center and through NMC’s Construction Technology program.

Each school constructed 2 - 8’x12’x10’ structures.  NMC built 2 saunas and CTC built 2 multi-purpose structures.  The structures were on display and judged at the Career Tech Center’s Spring EXPO on May 1st.  The judges were local builders and industry professionals consisting of Dean Adams with Bay Area Contracting, Steve Eveleigh of Northwest Carpentry, Max Strickland of Strickland Ewing & Associates and Leelanau Code Official Paul Hunter.  Visitors at the Spring Expo also had the opportunity to vote on their favorite entry.  The Judges Award went to NMC and the People’s Choice Award went to the Career Tech Center.

Raffle tickets were sold for $20 each and 4 winners were drawn on May 1st.  Thank you to everyone who purchased raffle tickets – your support of the Building Skills Showdown raised $9,280 for future HBA scholarships.

We would like to extend a special thank you to the Showdown Supply Sponsors.  Without their generous support the Building Skills Showdown would not have been possible.
